Central Elections Commission of Uzbekistan announced that Islam Karimov, the current head of the state won the Presidential Elections held on December 23, according to preliminary results. More than 88% of electorate has voted for Karimov, while other candidates could collect only three percent of total votes on average.

By midday today the Presidential Elections in Uzbekistan were recognized as completed. It was announced by Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov, the Chairman of the Central Elections Commission of Uzbekistan during the press-briefing. As of the 4 PM more than 12 million 855 thousand people out of total 16 million 297 thousand 400 registered citizens have already voted, thus making 78.9% voters turnout, which allows to recognize the Elections of 2007 as completed, according to the article 35 of the Law “on the Presidential Elections of Uzbekistan”...
