The interest to foreign universities and exchange programs is evident among Uzbek students and professors, as two halls of the Tashkent International School were completely overcrowded today. Representatives of educational institutions were busy explaining their admission procedures. Although, education abroad is desired by many, only a few can actually afford it. For example, one year in the US might cost of up to 30 thousand dollars. Alexey, a university student, is interested in new technologies and wants to continue his studies abroad.

Ming Uryuk, a town of thousand apricots, is an archeological site right in the capital of Uzbekistan. In the past it occupied 35 hectares of land, whereas now all that remains is a small hill. The excavations of the site have resumed this year. Scientists have already discovered that the town of Ming Uryuk was set around the said hill, which used to be a religious temple for the worshiping of fire and sun 2000 years ago.

Stem cell therapy is a likely reality for Uzbekistan, as a cord blood bank will soon be opened in Tashkent to store the cells of newborns. Blood drawn from umbilical cords will be stored at the temperature of minus 196 Celsius. Doctors say that this blood is a biological insurance for families and the entire population. For now this is only an experimental lab. Doctors of the Forensic Pathology Center are researching the cultivation of stem cells.

Famous scientists and medical workers meet once every two years to exchange the experience and observations in the mentioned fields. They discuss latest trends in dealing with oncology deceases...

The visitors of the Fair were presented the pioneer projects in medicine, industry, agriculture, and education. Many of such projects are already being used in other countries. Uzbekistan is developing its own medicine, medical equipment, and industrial technologies, in order to decrease the level of imports.

42nd International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad was opened in Tashkent, Uzbekistan today. Such event is held in Uzbekistan for the first time. In order to reach the final stage of the Olympiad, pupils from CIS, Latvia, and Bulgaria went through the competitive selection in their home countries. Uzbekistan participates in the Mendeleev Olympiad since 1997 and so far only won 7 bronze medals.
