The issue of supply and sale of Uzbek natural gas in Tajikistan does not have a political character. This is an economical problem, and Uzbekistan is interested in it, say the economists. The residents of Tajikistan will be able to receive electricity by-passing Uzbekistan. By simply pushing a button, the President of Tajikistan has launched a new power line “South-North.” Until the launch of the Sangtuda-2 Hydroelectric Power Station, it will connect all the scattered power lines of the Sogda region and the centre of the country. The construction of high-voltage power lines was initiated three years ago. 420 million dollars were spent for the construction. The project was financed by the state jointly with the Chinese export-import bank. The contractor was also represented by China.

Before the launch of the new power line, the north of Tajikistan mainly received electricity from Uzbekistan. In exchange, the Tajik electricity was supplied to the southern part of the neighbor. The only hydroelectric power station in Sogda region, which is Kayrakkum HPS provides electricity to only 15 to 20 percent. The new power line will be able to partially cover the problem of energy deficit in the country...
